Graacher Himmelreich, Riesling, Spätlese, Nr. 24, 2024
Fuder 5 is the only Domprobst Spätlese this year. It feels much more primary and youthful than the Kabinetts preceding it, offering a ripe fusion of greengages and apples and quince, with a lick of honey going into a salty, stony finish. Fuder 5 in youth is all about texture and a certain density. This stunning Spätlese is the result of an intense pre-selection of perfect yellow berries, small and concentrated, on the cusp of Auslese. The Schaefers opted to pick before late harvest rains rather than risk waiting for an Auslese that could go either way… Just one fuder barrel was produced. What a wine.

The 2024 Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese #05 opens bright and floral on the coolish and finely slate-inflected nose that reveals lemon rind notes along with delicate Riesling aromas. Round, lush, vital and sweet on the first taste, this is a mouth-filling and dense yet delicate, even filigreed Spätlese with a fine, savory, saline and very mouthwatering finish with delicately crunchy slate grip. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in January 2026 (AP 5 25).
